The Beef Buying Process

At S&A Farms, you can order our grass-fed, grain-finished beef directly from us—the farmers who raise it. We offer a range of sizes to suit your household, including 1/8 , 1/4, 1/2 and Whole Cow shares.

Our beef is a seasonal product, with butchering taking place between November and March each year. After harvest, each cut is dry-aged for +14 days to enhance tenderness and flavour before being cut and kryo-vacumed. Depending on your order window, your beef will be ready for delivery between December and April — fresh from our farm to your freezer. Once you've selected the beef share size that works best for your household (⅛, ¼, ½, or Whole Cow), you'll be able to choose your preferred delivery month at checkout—December, January, February, March, or April.

We deliver your order straight to your front door within the first two weekends of your selected month. To ensure a smooth handoff, please make sure someone is home during this time. You’ll also receive a confirmation email a few days beforehand with your exact delivery date and time window.

Beef Cost Breakdown

When purchasing bulk beef, it’s important to understand the difference between hanging weight and take-home weight:

Hanging Weight is the weight of the animal after it's been harvested and dressed, but before it’s been butchered into individual cuts.

Take-home weight is the final amount of beef you receive after the animal is dry-aged, trimmed and cut. This is typically 55–60% of the hanging weight depending on a multitude of factors.

Please note that our $/lb prices are inclusive of all butchering and packaging costs, unlike most other direct to consumer beef companies.

Our Pricing

1/8 Beef Box or 1/4 Beef Box is $7.75/lb hanging weight

1/2 Beef Box or Whole Cow Beef Box is $7.50/lb hanging weight

Estimated Cost Range (Assuming the average hanging weight of a cow is 800-900lbs)
1/8 Beef Box = $775-$900 (~60lbs of take home beef)
1/4 Beef Box = $1,550-$1750 (~120lbs of take home beef)
1/2 Beef Box = $3000-$3375 (~240lbs of take home beef)
Whole Cow Beef Box = $6000-$6750 (~480lbs of take home beef)

**PLEASE NOTE** When placing your order for a beef box, you are paying a deposit to reserve your share. Once butchering has been completed, we will send you a final invoice based on the actual hanging weight. The remaining balance will be due at least two weeks prior to your scheduled delivery date.
